A true country cafe: Cafe Mayfield

Head inland on State Highway 72 in mid-Canterbury to discover the best of the mountains, rivers, and plains.

Soon, you will arrive at the rural community of Mayfield, which dates back to 1879. A true country town, where you’ll find true country hospitality at Cafe Mayfield.

The cafe has its own history, with the family-owned premises evolving from a takeaway to the cafe it is today.

It may be in the countryside, but a sure sign of civilisation is being able to get a decent coffee. The team will produce whatever coffee takes your fancy and you can choose a pie or savoury, freshly baked slice, biscuit, or cake, to go with it.

A full breakfast and lunch menu is available, packed with homely favourites such as toasties, several varieties of nachos and many gluten-free options.

An active day out will mean a ravenous family, treat them to fish and chips or a burger on the way home.

If the kids still have energy to burn, give them an ice cream and point them in the direction of the playground, while you recover with your coffee.

Have a Kiwi country experience at Cafe Mayfield, 1992 Arundel Rakaia Gorge Road, Mayfield. You can phone in your order on 03 303 6210.
